Ich versuche mal eine Liste aufzuzählen die pro AS400 ist.

- CPM Continuosly Powered Mainstorage
- Scalierbare Hardware von ganz klein bis zu tausenden von Benutzern ohne einen einzigen Eingriff in die Anwendungssoftware.
- integrierte Datenbank
- intergrierte Sicherheit und Berechtigung
- Single Level Store
- intergriertes Backup System

PC-Beispiel: Für 200 User mit Citrix Software bereitstellen: 3 Server im Cluster mit jeweils 4 Prozessoren und Raid Speicher. Dazu Backup System, Domain Server, usw.

Qualität hat nun einmal ihren Preis.
Man kann nicht Mercedes oder BMW fahren wollen, aber nur den Passat bezahlen wollen. Was fährt Dein GF eigentlich ?

Ich bin der Meinung, daß es (salopp formuliert) - sofern unternehmneskritische Anwendungen wie ERP oder WWS betroffen sind -auf ein paar Tausender beim Kauf nicht ankommt. Umgelegt auf die Laufzeit eines Systemes und die Arbeitsplatzkosten spielen sie keine Rolle.

Entscheidend sind die Stabilität und s t ä n d i g e Verfügbarkeit der Anwendung. Zumal dann, wenn wie es heute bei eCommerce Anwendungen sein sollte, ein OnlineShop integraler Bestandteil der ERP- oder WWS-Software ist.

Zum Thema IBM: Die Company hat sich neu positioniert. Nach der Modernisierung der Hardwareplattform AS/400 und dem Rückzug aus dem Lösungsgeschäft hat sie aus ihrer alles notwendige getan, um die iSeries erfolgreich werden zu lassen.

Was jetzt gefragt ist? Mutige IT-Entscheider, die die neue iSeries von Ihrem Grün-Schwarzen Dasein erlösen...

Ich habe Folgendes gefunden:

IDC considers the iSeries to be the cheapest system over 3 or 5 years

Who ever said that the AS/400 is expensive? The renowned consulting company IDC has recently published a comparative study showing costs for iSeries-AS/400s, PC servers based on Intel processors, and Unix machines; the results have been amazing. The survey shows that - considering all purchasing costs, ongoing management and maintenance - running an ERP application on the AS/400 in a small company has a cost 91% lower than Unix and 95% lower than an NT server or Linux over 5 years. The AS/400 is always cheaper, even in those cases when the total cost is only considered over 3 years; and is also cheaper in large companies (with more than 5,000 users) instead of small companies.

What’s the secret? Although purchasing a PC server is cheaper initially, the survey shows that an iSeries-AS/400 supports many more users, has a longer useful life and above all, requires one third of the technical staff needed for a PC (and 60% less than Unix). Furthermore, the survey confirms the recent results of a Gartner Group study regarding AS/400 reliability: unscheduled downtime in a Unix machine is 6 times more frequent than in an AS/400 (not to mention Windows, which is 20 times more).
